PDC Demands: Hands off Mordechai Vanunu

Dear Mr. Maimon:

The Partisan Defense Committee vehemently protests the July 2 sentencing of Mordechai Vanunu to six months in prison. Vanunu, a courageous defender of Palestinian rights, was jailed for 18 years in solitary confinement, and he has been virtually imprisoned since his release in 2004, as his parole stipulates he cannot leave Israel or talk to foreigners. Now an Israeli court finds him guilty for “giving interviews to international media outlets over the past three years,” according to news reports.

This is outrageous. Mr. Vanunu was kidnapped in Italy by Mossad agents in 1986 and sentenced after kangaroo court proceedings for exposing the extent of Israel’s nuclear arsenal. For this act of heroism, the world owes this former nuclear technician a tremendous debt of gratitude. Mordechai Vanunu should never have spent even one day in jail.

The Partisan Defense Committee demands: hands off Vanunu! Let him leave Israel!
