Ich fordere / Wir fordern die sofortige Freiheit für Mumia Abu-Jamal – Mumia ist unschuldig

Mumia Abu-Jamals Berufung geht nun im „Eiltempo“ vor das Bundesberufungsgericht und der Staat ist entschlossen, seine Hinrichtung durchzuführen.

Mumia Abu-Jamal ist unschuldig. Als ehemaliger Sprecher der Black Panther Party und Unterstützer der Organisation MOVE und als ein mit Preisen ausgezeichneter Journalist, der als die „Stimme der Entrechteten“ bekannt ist, fiel Mumia 1982 einem Komplott zum Opfer, das auf der falschen Anschuldigung beruhte, er hätte einen Polizeioffizier aus Philadelphia getötet. Aufgrund seiner politischen Geschichte und Überzeugungen wurde er zum Tode verurteilt und hat die letzten 24 Jahre in der Todeszelle verbracht – für ein Verbrechen, das er nicht begangen hat. Das Komplott gegen Mumia Abu-Jamal zeigt, worum es bei der Todesstrafe geht. Sie ist ein Erbe der Sklaverei und eine barbarische Gewalttat, sie ist die legalisierte Form der Lynchjustiz.

Der Fall von Mumia Abu-Jamal verdeutlicht die Rassen- und Klassenvoreingenommenheit des US-amerikanischen Justizsystems gegen Arbeiter, gegen schwarze Menschen, gegen die Armen und Unterdrückten. Der berüchtigte und für das damalige Urteil verantwortliche Richter Albert Sabo wurde zufälligerweise gehört, als er seinerzeit versprach: „Ich werde ihnen helfen, den N----r zu braten“. Rassistische Manipulation der Geschworenen, durch Polizeidrohungen erzwungene falsche Zeugenaussagen und Vertuschungen der Staatsanwaltschaft bildeten die Grundlage für Mumias Verurteilung. Sowohl die Gerichte des Bundesstaates Pennsylvania als auch die Bundesgerichte haben sich geweigert, die Bände mit dokumentiertem Beweismaterial zu prüfen, das Mumias Unschuld belegt. In erster Linie ist hier das beeidigte Geständnis von Arnold Beverly zu nennen, dass er und nicht Mumia den Polizeioffizier niedergeschossen und getötet hat und dass Mumia mit der Erschießung nichts zu tun hatte.  

Wir stehen zusammen mit den Millionen überall auf der Welt, die den Kampf für Mumia Abu-Jamals sofortige Freiheit aufgenommen haben – Arbeiter, Studenten, Gegner der Todesstrafe, Kämpfer für die Rechte von Schwarzen und Immigranten, Sozialisten.

Ein Angriff auf einen ist ein Angriff auf alle!
